Pin Content from a Resource Group Page- Introduction to Microsoft Azure

Another way that you can add tiles to your dashboard is by adding them directly from a Resource Group page (see Figure 9.7). Many resource pages have a pin icon on the page header. This means that you can pin the tile to the source page. Figure 9.7 shows what the pin looks like.

If you click this icon, you can then pin the tile to an existing private or shared dashboard (see Figure 9.8). By selecting Create New, you can create a new dashboard that will include the pin.

Copy a Tile to a New Dashboard

You also have the ability to reuse a tile and use it on another dashboard. You can copy it from one dashboard to another. To do this, open the menu in the upper-r ight corner and then choose Copy, as shown in Figure 9.9.

You can then select whether you want to copy the tile to an existing private or shared dashboard or create a copy of the tile within the dashboard you are currently working on. You will also have the ability to create a new dashboard that will include a copy of the tile by clicking Create New.

Exercise 9.3 shows you the steps for changing the size of a tile or rearranging tiles on a dashboard.

EXERCISE 9.3

Resizing or Rearranging Tiles

  1. Select Edit from the page header.
  2. Then, select the menu in the upper-r ight corner of a tile. The Configure Tile Size window will appear on right- hand side (see Figure 9.10). Tiles that support any size also include a “handle” in the lower- right corner that lets you drag the tile to the size you want.

3. To arrange your dashboard, select a tile and drag it to a new location on the grid.

Set and Override Dashboard Filters

Near the top of the dashboard, you will see several options where you can set the Auto Refresh and Time settings for the data displayed on the dashboard (see Figure 9.11). There are other options to add additional filters.

FIGURE 9.11 Auto Refresh and Time Settings

By default, the data will be refreshed hourly. To change this, click Auto Refresh and choose a new interval to refresh. Once you have made your selection, click Apply. The default time is set to UTC Time, showing the data for the past 24 hours. To modify this, click the button and choose a new time range, time granularity, and/or time zone, then click Apply.

If you’d like to apply additional filters, select Add Filters. The options you see will vary depending on the tiles on your dashboard. Select the filter you’d like to use and the filter will then be applied to your data. If you’d like to remove the filter, click the X in its button. Tiles that support filtering will have a filter icon in the top-l eft corner, as shown in Figure 9.12. If you set filters for a particular tile, the left corner of that tile displays a double filter icon, which indicates that the data has its own applied filters.

Modify Tile Settings

There may be times when a tile is not configured to show you exactly the information you want. You can configure tiles to show the required information. You can override the dashboard’s default time settings and filters by customizing the tile data.

Data that is displayed on the dashboard shows current activity and based on the global filters that are set for that tile. But some tiles allow you to choose a different time span to display. To do this, follow the steps in Exercise 9.4.

EXERCISE 9.4

Customizing the Time Span for a Tile

  1. Select Customize tile data from the menu in the right- hand corner (as shown in Figure 9.13) or click the Filter icon in the upper-l eft corner of the tile.

2. Select the option Override The Dashboard Time Settings At The Tile Level (as shown in Figure 9.14).

3. Next, choose the time span you’d like to display for the tile. You can select from the past 30 minutes to the past 30 days. You can also select a custom range.

4. Next, choose the time granularity that you’d like to display. You can select anywhere from one- minute intervals to one- month.

5. When done, click Apply.
