Appearance + Startup Views- Introduction to Microsoft Azure

The Appearance + Startup Views pane has two sections: the Appearance section and the Startup Views section (shown in Figure 9.26). The Appearance section allows you to change menu behavior and the color theme, and specify whether you’d like to use a high- contrast theme. The Startup Views section allows you to set up the options for what you see when you first log into the Azure portal.

The Menu Behavior section allows you to change how the default Azure portal menu acts. You can choose from a flyout or a docked position:

Flyout means that the menu will be hidden. To see the menu, you will need to click the menu icon in the upper- left corner. You will click this option to both open and close the menu.

Docked means that the menu remains visible. You do have the option to collapse the menu if you’d like.

The theme you select will affect both the background and font colors when in the Azure portal. You can choose one of the four preset color themes in the Theme section. To select a color theme, just choose the color thumbnail. The High Contrast Theme section allows you to choose a theme that can make the Azure portal easier to read. This can be helpful if a user has a visual impairment.

The Startup Views section allows you to choose to see the home page or the dashboard when you log into the Azure portal:

Home: This option will display the home page. The home page includes shortcuts to Azure services, recently used resources, and useful links to tools, documentation, and more.

Dashboard: This option will display your most recently used dashboard.

You can also choose your startup directory views (as shown in Figure 9.27) when you log into the Azure portal. You can either sign into your last visited directory or you can select a directory.

Language + Region

The Language + Region pane (shown in Figure 9.28) has two sections that you can configure: Language and Regional Format. This will affect how data such as currency will be displayed in the Azure portal.

To change the language, use the Language drop-d own list to choose from the list of available languages. Use the Regional Format drop-d own list to choose the regional format. When you are done, click Apply.

My Information

The My Information page allows you to update your information such as your email address (see Figure 9.29). Near the top of the page, you also have the options to export, restore, or delete settings.

Export allows you to export user settings, such as private dashboards, user settings such as favorite subscriptions or directories, and themes and other custom settings. To export portal settings, click Export Settings. This creates a JSON file that contains the user settings data.

To restore default settings, click Restore Default Settings. You will be asked to confirm the action. You also have the ability to delete user settings and dashboards by clicking Delete All Settings And Dashboards. You will be asked to confirm this action.
